The known-to-all singer, actress, and producer Selena Gomez showed off how she supported the Facebook boycott, through Instagram Stories. Gomez shared a screenshot of the private message she had sent to Facebook, Inc. Chairman Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg.
Gomez, who had 93 million followers on Instagram and 77 million on Facebook wrote the following words to call out Zuckerberg and Sandberg to stop spread of hate speech, misinformation, and racism:
“Selena here. It’s been a while since we sat down. We have a serious problem. Facebook and Instagram are being used to spread hate, misinformation, racism, and bigotry. I am calling you both to HELP STOP THIS. Please shut down groups and users focused on spreading hate speech violence and misinformation. Our future depends on it.”
One of the most influential stars, the 28-year-old continued:
“We cannot afford to have misinformation about voting. There has to be fact-checking and accountability. Hope to hear back from you ASAP.”
As known, a good number of notable names – Kim Kardashian, Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Sacha Baron Cohen, Mark Ruffalo, Dwyane Wade, and Katy Perry – blacked out their social media activities for 1 day as a part of the ‘Stop Hate For Profit’ movement.
