Octavia Spencer, who is one of two black women to have got three Oscar nominations, spoke of female black-owned businesses and mentioned people who do her hair throughout her career.
The Golden Globe Award-winning actress posted a series of photos of herself and urged people to support black-owned businesses to keep them afloat in these painful days.
Spencer, who represented a hairdresser woman who produces hair products in Netflix series ‘Self Made,’ wrote as a caption:
“When I work on film and tv sets, the person who designs and styles my wigs is @shannonbakeman3 Shannon Bakeman. If you see me doing press or on a red carpet it’s @davestanwell Dave Stanwell. The person in charge of my personal everyday haircare pictured here, and the proprietor of #twodreamshairsalon, is Rene Binion.”
The actress continued by asking her followers to help Rene Binion:
“(…) Rene has been caring for my hair for about 17 years. I’m highlighting her because like most small business owners that the PPP loans were supposed to help, she’s still trying to get the banks to process her application. She’s trying to keep her business afloat and pay her employees. She’s still unable to get unemployment. Her shop does it all when it comes to black hair care. I urge you to look her up!”
‘The Help’ actress concluded her words as follows:
“TAG black female owned businesses below with a brief description of the services they/you provide. Give us a reason to click on your page!! 👇
