Well-known singer-songwriter FKA twigs, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, sued Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf for mental, emotional, and physical battery and assault.
According to New York Times reports, LaBeouf, who accepted that he has been abusive to people around him for a while, also gave the young singer a sexually transmitted disease.
Once the news spread, the 34-year-old actor, who was previously accused of abusive behavior by one of his girlfriends, sent an e-mail to the newspaper regarding the issue.
“I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations… I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
Even though he accepted that his behaviors have not been okay and said he would pay the price of the things he has done so far, the actor also denied all of the allegations are true. LaBeouf also wrote that he is “a sober member of a 12-step program” who is making his best to recover.
As for the singer, dated LaBeouf between 2018 and 2019, took to her verified Twitter account and wrote that this kind of relationship was hard for her to process, and explained why she had filed him now:
“I have decided it’s important for me to talk about it and try to help people understand that when you are under the coercive control of an abuser or in an intimate partner violent relationship leaving doesn’t feel like a safe or achievable option.”
In another tweet, the singer, who claimed that LaBeouf isolated her from her family and friends throughout their relationship, continued:
“I hope that by sharing my experience I can truly help others feel like they are not alone and shed some light on how those who are worried somebody they care about may be in an abusive relationship can help because I understand it can be confusing and hard to know what to do.”
