A few months after ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ saw release, Marvel announced that a sequel was on the way with director Destin Daniel Cretton returning. Since then, though, there have been very few updates about the project.
The delay in progress led to frustration among fans, with one recently voicing their criticism on TikTok, saying the studio did the character “dirty by not making a sequel within 3 years.” Simu Liu showed his agreement by liking the comment.
The holdup in the sequel’s development might be linked to the change in Marvel’s storyline plans after Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors faced assault charges.
The Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel’s bangles were supposed to connect to the villain, as implied in ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.’ The direction may now change to include elements from Kakaranthara, the mythical home of the dragon Fin Fang Foom.
If rumors are true, Liu might return in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ previously titled ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.’ But it seems unlikely that ‘Shang-Chi 2’ will be released before 2028 or 2029 as Cretton is currently busy with ‘Spider-Man 4,’ which will start production this summer.
Liu might already have started working out for the project, though. A shirtless photo he posted last month with the caption ‘prepping’ led to talks that an update for the sequel was coming. The actor himself didn’t confirm which role he was getting ready for.
