Sony is talking about buying Paramount.
New York Times reports that they are planning it with another company called Apollo Global Management. They want to buy all the shares of Paramount with cash. This will make Paramount a part of Sony’s group of companies.
Paramount owns Nickelodeon, MTV, and Paramount+.
This Move Could Be Really Good For Them
Sony don’t have a big streaming service like Netflix or Disney+, and buying Paramount could give them lots of movies and shows for streaming.
National Amusements is the company that controls Paramount, and they recently agreed to join with another company called Skydance Media. Skydance makes movies like ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Transformers.’
The news made Paramount’s stock prices go up by 12% after the market closed. Warner Bros. Discovery also talked about buying Paramount last year, but we haven’t heard much about that lately.
