In a recent interview with People, Stanley Tucci said he would gladly return for a ‘Devil Wears Prada’ sequel.
“If it does happen, I can only say that I’ll be happy,” the actor said. He added, “I don’t really know. I haven’t [heard] about the plot or anything. I really haven’t.”
Tucci starred as art director Nigel Kipling in the film. News surfaced earlier this year that a sequel to the 2006 film is in the works. The original producer Wendy Finerman is set to produce the follow-up, and talks are happening with the original director, David Frankel. While McKenna and Finerman are involved, no casting decisions have been made yet.
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is based on Lauren Weisberger’s book. It’s about Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), a recent college graduate who wants to be a journalist. She gets a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the tough editor of a fashion magazine. Andy has a hard time balancing her demanding job with her relationship and friendships, including Emily (Emily Blunt) and Nigel (Tucci).
According to Puck News, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ might focus on Miranda Priestly still running Runway magazine and dealing with the digital age. The movie could also follow the sequel book ‘Revenge Wears Prada,’ where years later, Andy and Emily are successful magazine editors, and Miranda returns to Andy’s life.
Hathaway first hinted at coming back as Andy in 2014, but she seemed more sure about it in a red-carpet interview earlier this year. “I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen,” the actress shared.
Blunt has also been against the idea of a sequel. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast earlier this year, she said there were never any plans for a follow-up. “Sometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble, and it’s okay,” she noted.
A source told Entertainment Weekly that the original cast, including Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt, were in talks to return for the sequel. Later, the Production List website confirmed that all four actors would return.
