‘The Acolyte’ star Amandla Stenberg assures fans that it will feel both new and familiar.
‘The Acolyte’ takes place during the High Republic era, and it’s a time that has never been shown in a live-action ‘Star Wars’ show or movie. Stenberg explained how ‘The Acolyte’ links to the earlier ‘Star Wars’ prequels. She told TotalFilm that the new series still feels like the prequels, but it also adds new elements for today’s viewers:
“We are the prequel to the prequels. And the prequels have this kind of prestige to them, this monarchical vibe. So one of my main questions going in was: are we going to maintain that sensibility? And yes, in many ways we do, while also incorporating elements that feel really contemporary and relatable. When I watched [the finished episodes] I was really struck by how universal the story was.”
‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is set to debut on Disney+ on June 4, 2024.
The Show Wants To Top An Iconic Scene
‘The Acolyte’s cast includes Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Dafne Keen recently shared that the series aims to top one of the most iconic moments from the ‘Star Wars’ films — the lightsaber duel with Darth Maul in ‘The Phantom Menace:’
“It was very much: We want to top the Darth Maul fight — the most iconic fight, I think, in the Star Wars cinematic universe. It’s such an amazing fight and we were all so excited about the saber fights. There’s such a skill and a craft to it that it feels so OG Star Wars and feels so impressive when you see it as a viewer.”
‘The Acolyte’ follows a well-respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) face a dangerous opponent from his past (Amandla Stenberg). They find themselves on a dark path as they uncover more clues. Hidden forces later reveal that things are not as they appear.
