Steven Yeun Addresses ‘Thunderbolts’ Exit Amid Austin Abrams Rumors

Steven Yeun talked about his exit from Marvel’s upcoming project after being attached to it for a year.

Steven Yeun was originally cast to play Robert Reynolds, aka Sentry, in Jake Schreier’s ‘Thunderbolts’ film, but he announced leaving the project earlier in the month. While fans speculated over his departure in the past week, the actor talked about the reason at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles:

“The strike kind of made scheduling untenable. Deeply respectful to them, and I know they’re gonna make a great, great film.”

Who Will Replace Yeun?

While the rumors about who will take over Yeun’s role in ‘Thunderbolts’ continue, reports are circulating that Austin Abrams, known for his role in ‘Euphoria’ and the film ‘Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark,’ might be in talks for the part.

On the other hand, neither Marvel Studios nor Abrams has confirmed these rumors, and it’s still unclear if the character Sentry will even be part of the film.

Details Of The Upcoming Project

The movie ‘Thunderbolts’ is set to show a group of antiheroes and villains from Marvel Comics working together under government orders. The cast includes notable names like Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Olgya Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus’ Thunderbolt’ Ross.

With filming scheduled to start in March or April 2024, the upcoming Marvel movie is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
