If David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad 2’ had been made, the DCEU sequel would have featured a surprising twist for one of the cast members from the 2016 film. Despite being one of the few financially successful films in the DCEU timeline, a proper sequel under Ayer’s direction never materialized. Instead, James Gunn’s the ‘Suicide Squad’ introduced a host of new characters while incorporating elements from the original 2016 movie.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley for his upcoming film ‘Alarum,’ Scott Eastwood discussed his brief time in the DCEU, where he played GQ Edwards in 2016’s ‘Suicide Squad.’ While Edwards was an original character, rumors suggested that Eastwood might have been slated to play a more prominent DC character. Surprisingly, Eastwood revealed that, despite his character being killed off, there were discussions about bringing him back as a different character in ‘Suicide Squad 2.’
“I know that there was talk about making me into another character and coming back. It just… David Ayer didn’t direct that next film then. I was like, ‘Look, let’s just see. Let’s see what the next thing holds. Is it a cool character? Who is it?’ And that never came around because he didn’t direct the film, so it was a different movie.”
When asked if he knew which character he might have played, Eastwood admitted, “They were just talking about who he could come back as, and we could make him somebody and this and that, and they hadn’t really landed on any of that.”
Eastwood was also asked if he would consider returning to the DC Universe in the future. He expressed his admiration for ‘Batman,’ saying:
“I mean, I think out of the DC universe, I’m definitely a Batman guy. I’m definitely a Batman guy. I think he’s the most interesting character because he is living double lives that are kind of a little bit more intriguing to me than some of the other ones. Yeah, I don’t know. There’s something cool about that character.”
Eastwood has previously expressed interest in playing another superhero role, keeping the door open for future opportunities in the genre.
