David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham are confirmed to join the cast of ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’ The film, which began production this week at DC’s UK production center in Leavesden, is based on the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic book miniseries.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie stars ‘House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock as Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Krumholtz and Beecham will play her parents.
The project is one of the first feature films developed under the direction of DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. It was introduced as part of their first wave of productions. Alcock was cast as Supergirl about a year ago and will first make an appearance in Gunn’s upcoming ‘Superman’ film.
The story follows Kara Zor-El on her 21st birthday as she travels across the galaxy with her loyal companion, Krypto. During her journey, she meets a young girl named Ruthye and embarks on a dangerous quest for revenge.
It is still unclear how closely the script, written by Ana Nogueira, will follow the Eisner-nominated 2021 comic. The original story broke from traditional good-versus-evil narratives, instead offering a cosmic, character-driven tale that spans multiple alien worlds and cultures. The comic’s narrative unfolds from the perspective of Ruthye, a young alien girl who seeks Supergirl’s help to avenge her father’s death at the hands of Krem of the Yellow Hills.
Eve Ridley plays Ruthye, while Matthias Schoenaerts portrays Krem. Jason Momoa is expected to make a guest appearance as the alien bounty hunter Lobo.
