‘Superman Returns’ Brandon Routh Advises David Corenswet Not To Save People All The Time

Corenswet will debut as the DC hero next year. Routh has some advice for the newcomer.

Brandon Routh offered some advice for David Corenswet’s upcoming run as Superman at a recent ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024 panel. He said:

“I think the biggest thing for me about Superman is always recognizing the non-physical superpowers that he has. It can be cheesy to relate it to the ‘teach a man to fish’ story, but quite literally that is how I see it, and it’s very apropos to being the thing.”

The actor explained:

“If you save people all the time, everywhere, maybe they never learn how to save themselves. That doesn’t mean that you don’t save them, but it just means that the teaching, the personality, the aspect, the human communication, the understanding Superman can give us of inclusion.”

New Superman Actor And His Co-Stars

Brandon Routh played Superman in Bryan Singer’s ‘Superman Returns,’ in 2006. He reprised the role in The CW’s ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ TV event, but has not returned since.

David Corenswet will take on the DC part in James Gunn’s new movie, ‘Superman,’ on July 11, 2025. He will co-star with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl.

First Look At The Upcoming DCU Film

Corenswet and Brosnahan have great chemistry on screen, according to Gunn. He wrote on Threads, this week:

“One year ago today, David and Rachel screen-tested for Clark and Lois. When they first read together it was like magic. What a wonderful year it’s been with two of the most extraordinary, vibrant, and meticulous actors I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with. I can’t wait for you to see them on screen in just a little over a year.”

First look at the lead actor in his new Superman costume came in May. The director posted the concept image on social media with the caption ‘Get ready!’
