Ted Danson Explains Why John Krasinski Was The One Person He Told ‘The Good Place’s Major Plot Twist

Danson admitted ruining ‘The Good Place’ for Krasinski.

During a recent appearance on his Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, Ted Danson revealed why he told John Krasinski about ‘The Good Place’s big twist.

Danson spoiled ‘The Good Place’ twist for Krasinski before the rest of the cast knew. On his podcast, Danson joked about being competitive with younger people and shared how Krasinski asked about his projects while preparing for a big movie.

“I said, ‘Well, I’m about to work with your buddy, Mike Schur and we’re doing something called ‘The Good Place,'” Danson shared.

After revealing the show was set in the afterlife, Danson watched “his eyes kinda dim a little bit, because he was going, ‘Oh, I get it. It’s ‘The Office’ in heaven.'”

Danson also explained in the rest of the podcast that he accidentally spoiled the twist by revealing he was a demon, not the good guy, and realized his mistake afterward.

‘The Good Place’ aired from 2016 to 2020 for four seasons. It followed Eleanor, Tahani, Jason, and Chidi in the afterlife with Michael and Janet. At first, they think they’re in ‘the Good Place,’ but soon learn they’re actually in ‘the Bad Place’ because of mistakes they made in life.

The series ended with Michael and the group fixing ‘The Good Place.’ People could leave the afterlife when they were ready. Each character completed their journey before leaving.

“We had a wonderful goodbye. It was really lovely because we had the whole year to say goodbye. We knew it was ending,” Danson discussed the finale in a 2020 interview on the ‘Today’ show. The actor added, “It was perfect. It was an absolutely perfect goodbye. It’s how you hope the universe works, really.”

He further shared his feelings, “Not feeling very legendary. I tend to handle transitions by doing something a little too much. My kids took me to Stonewall. We missed the cabaret, but we played pool into the wee hours.”

Danson will receive the Carol Burnett Award at the 82nd Golden Globes. He and Viola Davis, this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award winner, will be honored at a special dinner on January 3 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
