‘The Acolyte’ Fans Are Furious After Cancelation: ‘We’ll Never Forgive Disney!’

Fans are asking Disney to renew the series for a second season, despite its low viewership.

Disney+ canceled ‘The Acolyte’ a month after its final episode aired in July. Fans shared their anger on social media, using hashtags like ‘#SaveTheAcolyte,’ ‘#RenewTheAcolyte,’ and ‘#TheAcolyteForever’ to demand the show’s return.

“I just now found out that ‘The Acolyte’ got canceled? What the actual f*ck,” someone wrote on X. “What’s the point of even watching any new shows at this point? They just get canceled for no valid reason. There really is no joy in TV anymore.”

Another user referred to the series’ open-ended finale and commented, “The finale of ‘The Acolyte’ was tailor-made to set up a S2, and the fans truly deserve to see where it would have gone. Ignore the people who don’t want it. WE WANT IT. Who’s with me?”

Showrunner Leslye Headland previously talked about ideas for a second season, which included a romance between Osha and Qimir and more details about The Stranger’s story.

So, a viewer posted a fan-made would-be poster of Season 2 and said, “I’ll never forgive Disney for denying us this incredible storyline.”

‘The Acolyte’ received more criticism online than any other ‘Star Wars’ projects. It was ‘Certified Fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with a 78% rating, but its audience score stood at only 18%.

The result was partly because of the review bombing following the show’s release. On the other hand, viewership was also less than expected, with the finale recording the lowest rating of any ‘Star Wars’ series.

Disney has not made any moves to reverse the cancellation yet.
