‘The Acolyte’ creator reflected on the show’s future as there are only three episodes left. Sadly for fans, it seems she has no plans for a second season for now.
Leslye Headland spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what might happen next. She said we shouldn’t expect to learn much about The Stranger’s backstory. She explained:
“Because it’s Osha’s story, you don’t know much about the Stranger’s background and you’re not really going to learn much about it. But there are a bunch of things in episode 6 and episode 8 that are really big clues as to why he is the way he is and why his philosophy is the way that it is.”
When asked about a second season, Headland admitted she didn’t plan ‘The Acolyte’ with more seasons in mind. She said she put everything into the first season, similar to how Vince Gilligan did with the first season of ‘Breaking Bad.’ Headland said:
“I think there’s enough stuff in the last few episodes that you would want to have answered. … I threw everything into season 1, because who knows what’s going to happen? And then I’d say there are four to five major mysteries and plot points that have to get hit in season 2. … It will probably be more that I know what needs to happen, and I know what the character development needs to be in order to hit the plot points and the character points for a second, third, or fourth season. So I look forward to working on that, but right now, I haven’t.”
‘The Acolyte’ Has People Talking
‘The Acolyte’ came out earlier this month and has been pretty divisive. Some people love it — especially after a recent action-packed episode where The Stranger revealed himself as a Sith and defeated several Jedi. But others aren’t so sure about it.
Headland has ideas for four to five major mysteries and plot points for a second season, but she said she hasn’t started working on it yet. She’s spent a lot of time on the project and feels exhausted. She knows what needs to happen in future seasons if they get the go-ahead, but for now, nothing is set in stone.
‘The Acolyte’ has been quite controversial online, and this might affect its chances of getting a second season. But it seems to be a hit in terms of ratings on Disney+, so there’s a chance the story could continue in a few years. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
