The first look at ‘The Acolyte’ received a lot of thumbs-down on YouTube. The show’s trailer has over 270,000 dislikes so far.
The video did get some likes — over 155,000, in fact. But with dislikes outnumbering likes, it seems fans aren’t pleased with what they saw. YouTube’s comment section is already flooded with negative reviews, and fans are not holding back.
Some fans are using lines from the trailer to show their frustration:
”What do you see?’ The comment section getting turned off.’
Others suggest Disney doesn’t really get what Star Wars fans want from the franchise:
“Finally, a Star Wars for modern audiences (and empty seats.)”

Fans Say ‘Star Wars Fans’ Are Hard To Please
Some fans on Twitter are saying the backlash is over the top. They argue that there may be a different reason for the dislikes:
“The trailer isn’t even that bad; they hate it because of woman and color.”
Another agreed with this idea:
“Toxic ‘Star Wars’ fans mad about the diversity and woman in the trailer.”
In general, many believe ‘Star Wars’ fans are too toxic to be pleased with anything:
“You will NEVER please Star Wars fans. One of the most toxic fan bases out there. There isn’t a single Star Wars piece I do not like because it’s not REAL. Just enjoy it for what it is you nerds.”
What’s ‘The Acolyte’ About?
‘The Acolyte’ takes fans back to the final days of the Star Wars High Republic era. The official plot synopsis reads:
“In an age of light, a darkness rises. The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that takes us to a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the Star Wars High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”
The trailer didn’t make a great first impression, but it did break records. It got more than 51.3 million views across all platforms in just 24 hours.
Leslye Headland isn’t letting the bad vibes get her down. She’s already thinking about making more seasons of the show. She told Collider:
“When I pitched it, I definitely pitched it as a multi-season show. There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that are not tied up, for sure.”
‘The Acolyte’ is set to hit Disney+ on June 4, 2024.
