‘The Batman’ Writer Returns For Sequel Despite Not Receiving Credit

This time, he’ll be officially recognized for his work.

Mattson Tomlin is returning to work on ‘The Batman’ sequel, even though he didn’t get credit for his work on the first movie.

When Tomlin was brought in to help with the original movie, he was told that he might not get an official screenwriting credit because he joined the project late. He still worked hard and was disappointed when his name didn’t appear in the credits.

Looking back on those days, he admitted it was painful. “I put a lot of time and a lot of heart in,” Tomlin reecently told THR. “I had a really great time working with Matt on that first movie. And when I got brought in, it said, ‘Look, we’re so late in this process that you’re probably not going to get credit.’ So nobody did anything to me. I wasn’t screwed over.”

Tomlin first realized he wouldn’t be credited when the trailer for’ The Batman’ was released in 2020 during DC’s Fandome event. Despite his contributions to the movie, the rules around who gets credit meant his name wasn’t included.

Tomlin says no one treated him unfairly, and he enjoyed working with the movie’s director Matt Reeves. He had a long conversation with Reeves on the day ‘The Batman’ was released. “I had an impulse to go ‘OK, but are you going to ask me to do the sequel?’ And I didn’t go there,” he recalled. “Instead, it became very clear to me, that he just wants to talk about what he’s just been through.”

Six weeks later, Reeves called Tomlin and invited him to write the sequel, this time from the very beginning.  This means Tomlin will finally get the official screenwriting credit he missed out on the first time.

Tomlin is also involved in another project called ‘Terminator Zero.’

‘The Batman Part II’ is set to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
