Megyn Kelly accused Erin Moriarty of getting plastic surgery a few months ago and triggered an online backlash against the actress. Moriarty left social media shortly after the talks began but posted a message on the matter on Instagram.
She recently said of that period and her Instagram post in a chat with The New York Times:
“For a few months, I thought my career was over. Because there was so much attention brought to something that I was told never to address. I had left it on a note where I’d explicitly said that I had been heartbroken by the comments. Now, I’m not heartbroken. I’m galvanized.”
She’s Focused On Work Now
Kelly’s accusations caused unwanted attention in her Moriarty’s personal life, as well. The paparazzi started stalking her after the incident. But the actress said she was now focused on her role as Starlight rather than the controversy.
She’s working with Eric Kripke to better represent feminism on screen:
“I’ve learned to trust my showrunner. I’m used to people saying they want to do one thing with a female character and doing another thing. I just think, thank God there are characters like this, and thank God she came along. I don’t know how I would metabolize my own experiences otherwise.”
The Controversy Between Kelly And Moriarty
The talks about Erin Moriarty’s appearance began when Megyn Kelly alleged on her podcast that the actress underwent plastic surgery as a result of ‘mental illness’ and an ‘obsession with turning yourself into this fake version of yourself.’
‘The Boys’ actress replied on Instagram by saying that the photo Kelly used was an old one taken before she was of legal drinking age. She added that her appearance in the image was a result of professional makeup and contouring instead of surgery.
The Actress’ ‘Thank You’ Message
Moriarty returned to the platform a month after the first post with a message for her fans:
“Dropping in to say 1) I love you all 2) very grateful to be holding my little dude again and 3) to [those] that came forward to talk to me, were vulnerable enough to share: you are fucking amazing, Stories that should be heard FAR more than mine. I do believe we have a long way to go. In the meantime: talk to me. I wanna hear. Safe zones, empathy, and/or sympathy, and catharsis: a medicinal combo. Trust me.”
The actress is now back on screen as Starlight in ‘The Boys’ Season 4. The show’s fifth season is now in the works but will reportedly be the finale.
You can watch ‘The Boys’ on Prime Video.
