‘The Boys’ writer Eric Kripke revealed on Instagram that his family lost their home in the Palisades Fire. The fire completely destroyed his home and everything inside it. Thankfully, Kripke confirmed that his family and pets are safe.
In his post, Kripke shared that he regrets not saving some items. “My only thought at this point: when evacuating, I went through the house, searching for the necessities like passports and birth certificates. Only afterwards, when it was all gone, did it hit me: I didn’t take the things that had sentimental value,” he explained.
Among the belongings lost were a photo of his father, cardboard robots his children made, journals he had kept since he was 18, and favorite childhood toys, including a Godzilla Shogun Warrior Toy and an Omnibot. He also mentioned losing his favorite issues of ‘Twilight Zone Magazine’ and ‘Cinefantastique,’ saying, “These are the priceless things that can’t be replaced.”
Kripke encouraged people to prepare for emergencies as well. “The advice I’m telling everyone is to make a list of your valuable objects: not cash value, but sentimental value. And take as many with you as you can. After people and pets, those are the things that matter. Stay safe everyone,” he wrote to his followers.
He also expressed gratitude to firefighters and first responders for their efforts during the disaster and urged his followers to donate to help others affected by the wildfires.
The Palisades Fire, where Kripke’s home was located, is one of 23 wildfires that have been burning across Southern California since January 7. Together with the Eaton Fire in Altadena, the two fires destroyed or damaged thousands of homes and businesses. They are now among the most destructive in California’s history.
As of today, the wildfires killed at least 25 people, forced nearly 180,000 residents to evacuate, and destroyed or damaged over 12,000 structures. Families like Kripke’s, have been left without homes, and communities are struggling to recover.
‘This Is Us’ star Mandy Moore also shared on Instagram that her brother-in-law and sister-in-law lost their home in the Eaton Fire. The couple were expecting their first child in a few weeks, and they lost all of their belongings. Moore, whose own home was damaged, posted a GoFundMe link to help her relatives rebuild. However, she received backlash after this move.
