‘The Crow’ Remake Drops Trailer, Fans Are Divided

People on the internet can’t agree if they like it or not.

The trailer for 2024’s ‘The Crow’ is recently released on YouTube.

According to fan tweets, it changed some opinions about the film despite the initial backlash. Some admitted they now think the movie might not be ‘that bad’:

“I was skeptical at first, but nahh, I’m in.”

Another wrote:

“I don’t know why people are comparing Bill Skarsgård with Brandon Lee before watching the movie. He is looking good. Waiting for the release!”

However, there were also others who felt the remake was still far from the original:

“This looks like trash. Hate to say this, but the original is better than this crap. Big time pass.”

The reception was mainly negative on YouTube. Most of the fan reactions to the trailer were humorous:

“The Batman looked more like The Crow than this movie does.”

Another comment read:

“Some movies are too iconic to be remade. ‘The Crow’ is one of those movies.”

Director Supports the Changes Made in the Remake

Skarsgård’s version of Eric Draven surfaced online on March 1 and received fan backlash. Some fans criticized the actor’s look even before the trailer’s release as it strayed too far from Brandon Lee’s aesthetic. Comments likened the new Crow to ’emo musicians’ and called him a ‘massacre.’

Director Rupert Sanders spoke to Vanity Fair on February 28 and defended the remake’s new direction. He explained what inspired him to create this version:

“I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep.”

The new version of ‘The Crow‘ is scheduled for a release on June 7 next year. FKA Twigs stars as Skarsgård’s girlfriend, Shelly, with Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger also appearing in the movie.

A 4K release of the original 1994 film is also set to come out on May 7, 2024.
