The Dark Knight Rises, But Not In 2025: ‘The Batman 2’ Is Now Delayed

Starring Robert Pattinson, ‘The Batman 2’ will not come out in 2025 as planned. Now, fans have to wait until October 2026 to see the next part.

As Deadline reports, Warner Bros. recently announced a major delay in the release of ‘The Batman 2,’ pushing back the sequel from its original October 3, 2025 launch date to October 2, 2026. This extends the wait for fans who want to see Robert Pattinson in the follow-up to 2022’s ‘The Batman.’

Due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes, initial production scheduled for November 2023 was postponed, with a new aim for March 2024. As of the latest updates, key figures like Jeffrey Wright and DC Studios head James Gunn revealed they have yet to receive the script. Wright told Variety:

“Here’s the beginning, middle, and end laid out for you. I have not read the script. I have not received the script. I’m waiting patiently.”

In place of ‘The Batman: Part II,’ Warner Bros. has rescheduled ‘The Bride,’ starring Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, and Peter Sarsgaard, to the October 3, 2025 slot. Moreover, ‘Alto Knights,’ a mob drama featuring Robert De Niro, has been moved to March 21, 2025.

What’s in Store For ‘The Batman’ Franchise?

Directed by Matt Reeves, the first film introduced fans to a new vision of Gotham City under DC’s Elseworlds banner. It received positive feedback from critics and fans. The sequel, officially titled ‘The Batman: Part II,’ is set to continue the story with Pattinson returning as the lead.

Despite the postponement, ‘The Batman’ franchise and its extended universe continue to expand. The 2022 film was the first of a planned trilogy that aims to create a Batman-centric cinematic universe. Alongside the sequel, spin-off projects, including ‘The Penguin‘ series starring Colin Farrell, are in the works, with a release set for late 2024.

Long delays can be a bad omen for films like ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,‘ which received a negative reception afterward. However, this does not necessarily indicate ‘The Batman 2’ will underperform or be of poor quality. Stay tuned for more updates on ‘The Batman: Part II’ and other upcoming projects from Warner Bros. and DC Studios.
