Disney’s 20th Century Studios is behind the production for the yet-untitled ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’ according to Puck. Meryl Streep is set to reprise her role as Runway magazine editor Miranda Priestly to face ‘the dystopian post-aughts realities of the magazine business.’
Wendy Finerman is back to produce the sequel, and Aline Brosh McKenna is in talks to join her. McKenna was the screenwriter for the first movie based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel as well.
It’s not yet clear if the new movie will adapt Weisberger’s 2013 follow-up, ‘Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.’ But if it does, the project may also feature Anne Hathaway’s Andy and Emily Blunt’s Emily founding their own magazine a decade after their time at Runway.
It’s Unclear If The Original Cast Will Reunite
Hathaway reunited with Blunt and Streep at last year’s SAG Awards after casting doubt over ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ in her past interviews. The actress said of a possible sequel in a 2022 chat with The View:
“I don’t know if there can be [a sequel]. I just think that movie was in a different era. Now, everything has gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing, and it’s just very different now.”
She added:
“It is tempting to think about Andy and Emily needing to get Miranda her coffee and she’s somewhere in Europe and then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who’s at a restaurant. It’s tempting, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. They could relaunch it, get some new people and do it.”
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ became a cult classic following a box office success with $326 million worldwide in 2006.
