‘The Goonies 2’ Won’t Happen Despite Rumors, Stars Confirm

Corey Feldman and others publicly denied any work on ‘The Goonies 2.’

Recent rumors suggested that ‘The Goonies 2’ might be in the works, but multiple cast members from the original 1985 movie now confirmed that a sequel is not happening.

Corey Feldman, who played Clark ‘Mouth’ Devereaux in the film, addressed the rumors on social media. He said he has no information about any plans for a sequel. “IS #GOONIES2 REAL?! EVERY1 IS ASKING… I CAN OFFICIALLY TELL U 100% NO!” Feldman wrote, confirming there are no discussions or developments for a second movie.

Martha Plimpton, who played Stef Steinbrenner, also denied the rumors. She stated clearly on her Instagram, “There is no Goonies 2 script… Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real.”

Joe Pantoliano, who starred in the movie as Francis Fratelli, called the idea of a sequel a ‘hoax’ on his own social media account. He denied any plans for ‘The Goonies 2’ but offered his own suggestion: making a documentary or reality show about the cast as they approach the film’s 40th anniversary.

Sean Astin was the one who stirred speculation by posting a fake poster for a sequel titled ‘Goonies Are Good Enough,’ but it seems his post was more playful than serious. The poster credited Steven Spielberg as the director, and this led some fans to believe there could be truth to the rumors.

Astin’s caption, “It’s our time. C’mon, Steven…,” hinted that Spielberg might be the key to getting the project off the ground, but there’s no actual progress on a sequel.

During a virtual reunion in 2020, Spielberg said that he, director Richard Donner, and producer Lauren Shuler Donner discussed sequel ideas, but they never found one good enough to move forward. He explained that the bar set by the first movie has made it hard to create a worthy follow-up. “Every couple of years, we come up with an idea, but then it doesn’t hold water,” Spielberg said.
