‘The Haunting Of Hill House’s Oliver Jackson-Cohen Is Not Happy With Short-Term Fame

He feels that shows like ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ are quickly forgotten when new ones arrive.

In a recent interview with The Independent, Oliver Jackson-Cohen discussed the challenges of being ‘Netflix famous’ and the rapid shift in audience attention as new shows continuously emerge on streaming platforms.

Jackson-Cohen’s portrayal of Luke Crain in ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ and Peter Quint in ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ earned him wide recognition. However, the actor noted that the spotlight is short-lived in the streaming age:

“It’s quite an interesting thing. You’re the most famous person in the world for a while, and then the next show comes along, and that completely takes over.”

Are ‘Bly Manor’ and ‘Hill House’ Connected?

The Haunting of Hill House‘ premiered on October 12, 2018. Created and directed by Mike Flanagan for Netflix, the series is based loosely on Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel. The cast, including Michiel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel, Victoria Pedretti, and others, portrayed a family haunted by their past experiences in the Hill house.

Following the success of ‘The Haunting of Hill House,’ Netflix released ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor‘ on October 9, 2020, as part of the anthology. Drawing inspiration from Henry James’ ‘The Turn of the Screw,’ this series featured several actors from ‘Hill House’ in new roles, but ‘Bly Manor’ and ‘Hill House’ are not direct sequels to each other.

In addition to ‘The Haunting’ series, Jackson-Cohen has appeared in Netflix’s 2021 film ‘The Lost Daughter’ and has been a part of other projects, including the 2020 adaptation of ‘The Invisible Man’ and the 2013 television series ‘Dracula.’ He recently starred in the miniseries ‘Wilderness’ (2023) and is involved in an upcoming project, ‘The World Will Tremble.
