Cristin Milioti joined ‘The Penguin’ as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of the late crime boss Carmine Falcone, to fight for control of Gotham City’s criminal underworld. According to a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, though, this wasn’t her first attempt at landing a superhero gig.
“There were a couple of them,” the actress told the outlet. “I love superhero films, and I’ve tested for a lot of it. If someone my age was in it, I was probably up for it at different levels. Some I made to the final round. And yeah, you do start to think, ‘Oh, OK, I guess I’m just not built for that.’”
Commenting on her new DC role, she added, “And then with this, it felt like, ‘I really get this character,’ and it felt sort of fate. Whereas the others, I do understand why I didn’t get those. For sure.”
Milioti spoke about her interest in the superhero genre before. She most recently shared on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ that she’s been particularly fond of Batman villains since she was a kid.
“I’ve been into Batman my entire life,” the actress’ words read. “Like, I grew up pretending to be villains in my backyard. I rode my bike all around every day after school, pretending to be the Joker, the Riddler, Catwoman – you name it. And so, the fact that I’m getting to do this now is like so unimaginably profound. It blows my mind. My younger self would be thrilled.”
‘The Penguin’ premiered on HBO on September 19, picking up from where Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ left off. The show follows Oz Cobb’s rise in Gotham’s criminal world, with new episodes airing weekly until mid-November.
