Although Drea de Matteo voted for the first time in her life to replace Donald Trump with Joe Biden in 2020, she recently declared her support for the former president, aligning herself with a more conservative stance. This, along with her anti-vaccine opinions, led to a fallout in Hollywood, especially after the pandemic.
The actress’ agent dropped her right after she refused the vaccine for COVID-19, and she later made headlines by openly supporting Trump on ‘Jesse Watters Primetime.’
The actress recalled the struggle her open political stance caused by telling Variety, “I tried not to be outspoken. I tried to be under the radar. But I joined OnlyFans, to save my f*cking house. And it was kind of, in a weird way, a political statement. Like a big ‘f*ck it.’ Get comfortable being uncomfortable. That was my statement,”
While de Matteo still continued receiving offer from major projects, her family life ultimately led her to decline them. “I was offered some Marvel thing, and I turned that down because my son was crying every time I’d go to Canada to just guest star on something,” the actress shared. “And I was like, ‘F*ck it. I’m not gonna do it. I have enough money to get us through the winter.’ I don’t want to be this Hermès-toting, Gucci shoe-wearing person. I just didn’t give a sh*t. I mean, I wear sweatpants and T-shirts all day.”
After ‘The Sopranos’ ended in 2006, de Matteo took on roles in other popular shows like ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and ‘Desperate Housewives.’ Her recent on-screen appearances have been mostly guest spots, though.
Today, the actress is busy with her Ultrafree brand, which promotes free speech and pushes back against a status quo she dislikes. She also runs her jewelry line, Tombstone, embracing the mob wife aesthetic that many associate with her.
