‘The Walking Dead’ star Andrew Lincoln said the death of a beloved character was a bit too intense.
The actor recently sat down with Empire and said ‘The Walking Dead’ team may have made Glenn’s death a bit too gruesome compared to others in the show:
“I do still think [Glenn’s death] might have been when we over-egged the omelet. Maybe it was lingering too much.”
Filming The Death Wasn’t Easy For Lincoln
He also said the following about shooting that scene:
“[It was] the most intense nights of shooting I’ve ever been part of.”
Then, Lincoln talked about Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan:
“[He is] one of the nicest guys you’re ever going to meet.”
Morgan had to deliver a speech on his first day, and everyone was emotional. Lincoln explained:
“[Morgan] came over and went, ‘Is this normal?’ I went, ‘Yeah, everybody just keeps going.’ It was an extraordinary night.”
The Impact Of Glenn’s Passing On The Series
The Season 5 premiere, where Glenn died, had the highest viewership with 17 million viewers. However, it lost two million viewers the following week. Years later, the show had around 1.5 million viewers per season, with the series finale reaching 2.2 million viewers.
Glenn’s death in ‘The Walking Dead’ had a big impact. It showed Negan as a dangerous villain who hurt Rick’s group and made him a big threat despite his later attempts to change. Maggie, Glenn’s wife, struggled to forgive Negan. Their story continues in the spinoff series, ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City,’ focused on saving their son, Hershel Rhee.
The main ‘Walking Dead’ series has finished, but the franchise continues. Lincoln stars in a spin-off called ‘The Ones Who Live’ with Danai Gurira as Michonne. It follows their characters after the events of the original show.
