‘The Witcher’s Yennefer Anya Chalotra is joining the DC Universe as Circe, a powerful sorceress from Greek mythology.
Chalotra will voice the character in the upcoming animated series ‘Creature Commandos.’ Reports suggest that DC Studios has much bigger plans for Circe, though. This hints at her live-action debut in future DCU projects.
Circe is a formidable villain who first appeared as an enemy of Wonder Woman in the comics. She has the potential to play a major role in shaping the direction of the DCU as she’s ruthless and incredibly powerful. As per ComicBookMovie.com, insider Daniel Richtma believes Circe might even become one of the main villains in the franchise after ‘Creature Commandos’ sets the stage for her debut on the big screen.
‘Creature Commandos’ will be the first project released under the DCU’s new direction. It’s premiering ahead of James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ reboot in 2025. The series is part of Gunn’s vision to connect animation and live-action to allow characters to appear in both formats with the same actors playing their roles. Gunn confirmed that several characters from the show will transition to live-action, but it hasn’t been revealed who will make the leap.
The series features a cast including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorous, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as both G.I. Robot and Weasel, Steve Agee reprising his ‘Peacemaker’ role as John Economos, and Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller. Tudyk might also take on the role of Clayface in live-action, but this has not been confirmed.
The show is written entirely by James Gunn and blends animated and live-action storytelling. A new 30-second teaser for ‘Creature Commandos’ has been released to show the animated versions of these characters, including Circe. Watch it below.
