Tom Brittney Admits Ripping Henry Cavill’s Superman Suit, ‘I Was More Muscular Than Him’

Brittney tried out for the role of Clark Kent in James Gunn’s ‘Superman.’

In a new interview with the Hellish podcast, Tom Brittney shared he ripped Henry Cavill’s suit during the DCU audition.

“It was actually Henry Cavill’s Superman suit – it was his actual suit,” the actor revealed. “It takes about half an hour to get into it – to get sewn into it. And yeah, I think I might have accidentally ripped it. I was more muscular than Henry Cavill, that’s the only reason.”

Brittney confirmed he was one of the actors who auditioned for the lead role in DC Studios’ ‘Superman.’ At the time, there were reports that he was a finalist, along with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult.

Hoult was later cast as Lex Luthor, while Corenswet became Superman. It’s still unclear if Gunn will cast Brittney as another character in the DCU. Like Corenswet, Brittney looks similar to Cavill and is actually an inch taller than the ‘Justice League’ star.

It’s not unusual for actors to audition in costumes from previous projects. Even Cavill tested for the DCEU Superman in the suit Christopher Reeve wore. Another example is Cillian Murphy, who tested for Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ movies in Val Kilmer’s Batman suit from ‘Batman Forever.’

‘Superman’ tells the story of Clark Kent, a young man from Smallville, Kansas, trying to balance his Kryptonian roots with his human upbringing. He represents truth, justice, and kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned. David Corenswet plays Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane.

The cast also includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.

Other characters include Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Pa Kent, Neva Howell as Ma Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher MacDonald as Ron Troupe, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

The movie is set for release on July 11, 2025.
