Tom Holland talked about the latest developments on ‘Spider-Man 4’ in a recent episode of ‘The Rich Roll’ podcast. While the sequel is expected to start filming under Destin Daniel Cretton next year for a summer 2026 release, the script still seems to need some tweaking.
“We have a creative and a pitch and a draft which is excellent. It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job and I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me,” Holland revealed. “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were like bouncing around the living room.”
He went on, “Like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect, but there [are] a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going. But it’s exciting and I’m really, really excited about it.”
Current rumors suggest two potential plot directions for the film: a street-level adventure with Daredevil, or a Multiversal battle involving Venom, with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire possibly reprising their roles as Spider-Men.
Neither Marvel nor Sony has confirmed these talks, and Holland explained, “Obviously, one of the things to like bear in mind with Marvel is that there is, your film is a small cog in a large machine, and that machine has got to keep running, and you need to make sure that you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture.”
“I feel like I owe it to [fans] to give and deliver the best version of what the next chapter for Spider-Man looks like, and I think that’s really important, and I think the creative integrity for something like that is really important, and the studio is on board and supportive and really collaborative.”
Although ‘No Way Home’ writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are believed to be involved in the writing process, concrete information about the script is scarce. Still, Holland has some ideas for his future in the MCU: “If I would be lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man Universe and into the MCU, I’d love to do for a young kid what [Robert] Downey [Jr.] did for me.”
If recent rumors are true, ‘Spider-Man 4’ will also reunite RDJ and Tom Holland, possibly against Knull, who will be introduced in ‘Venom: The Last Dance.’
