We will need to wait a bit longer for the next ‘Top Gun’ movie.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently shared an update about ‘Top Gun 3,’ and it looks like it’s still in the early stages of development. Speaking at the premiere of ‘Young Woman and the Sea,’ Bruckheimer said that there are some initial talks about the movie, but the new movie isn’t expected anytime soon:
“We had preliminary stuff. We’re not there yet. [There’s] ways to go.”
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was the second-most successful movie of 2022. Its real-life action scenes stood out in a time when most movies rely heavily on CGI.
One Thing is Certain: Tom Cruise Will Return
Bruckheimer confirmed this in March, telling Screen Rant that Cruise liked a story idea from director Joe Kosinski:
“It will be Tom Cruise. Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and he [Cruise] said ‘I really like that’ so we’re developing it. But you never know when it’s going to get made because Tom is so busy. … Hopefully, we’ll get a screenplay that he loves, and we’ll be back in the air again.”
Cruise is currently busy working on ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ and has another movie lined up after that. His busy schedule could delay the production of ‘Top Gun 3.’
Early reports also suggested that Tom Cruise would reunite with his co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell in the third movie. There hasn’t been much news on this since the announcement in January.
