Uma Thurman shared insights into Joel Schumacher’s ‘Batman & Robin’ during an appearance on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ this past Monday, October 21.
During the interview, Clarkson revealed, “My kids are obsessed with ‘Batman & Robin.’ They love Poison Ivy.”
“It’s the one that was actually made for children,” Thurman noted in response.
‘Batman & Robin,’ although rated PG-13, took a lighter approach to Bruce Wayne’s story compared to other adaptations. This version featured many one-liners and punny jokes for a more family-friendly tone.
The film saw George Clooney’s Batman and Chris O’Donnell’s Robin/Dick Grayson team up to stop Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze and Thurman’s Poison Ivy from taking over Gotham City.
Over the years, ‘Batman & Robin’ remained popular among fans as a campy classic, though it received high criticism upon its release and scored only 12% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Clooney himself shared that he wouldn’t let his kids and wife, Amal, watch the movie. “There are certain films I just go, ‘I want my wife to have some respect for me,’” he noted at a screening of 2021’s ‘The Tender Bar.’
“It’s bad when your four-year-old kid goes, ‘This sucks,’” he added. “That could be painful.”
Still, the actor reprised his role as Bruce Wayne in 2023’s ‘The Flash,’ which also brought Michael Keaton’s version back for a brief appearance.
