‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Director Breaks Silence On Knull’s Role In The Upcoming Threequel

The film will hit the screen on October 25.

Director Kelly Marcel discussed the introduction of Knull into Sony’s comic book universe in a recent chat with IGN and described him as a ‘much bigger challenge’ for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom.

“Trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull,” Marcel said. “The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done.’ This film introduces Knull, but it just touches the beginnings of his story.”

“Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time. Here, Knull is the threat lurking behind the danger that tests the absolute limits of Eddie and Venom’s partnership – but its relationship that remains the heart of this story,” she continued.

“From the beginning, Tom and I always envisioned that this particular Eddie/Venom story would be told in three parts and the story arc would climax with the third film for reasons the movie will reveal.”

Hardy previously hinted that this third movie could mark the end of his time as Venom. But the director teased possible appearances from Knull outside this trilogy.

“As the fans know there are many, many more symbiote stories – the universe is wide and rich, and one movie could never do justice to Knull,” she explained. “Beyond this trilogy, there are more stories to explore – God is coming.”

Rumors so far suggested that Knull would show up in ‘Spider-Man 4’ to face off against Tom Holland’s titular hero for a Multiversal story that could potentially feature Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and Tom Hardy. None of the news is confirmed by Sony or Marvel, though.

Development on ‘Spider-Man 4’ is ongoing, with Destin Daniel Cretton set as the director, while the cast and release date have yet to be announced.
