Vin Diesel Points Fingers At Studio ‘Chaos’ Over ‘Fast X’ Sequel Delays

The production of the next installment has hit another roadblock.

‘Fast X: Part 2’ is pushed to a theatrical release in 2026, with production rescheduled to begin in early 2025, and Vin Diesel is not happy with the change. The sequel was originally planned to be shot back-to-back with ‘Fast X’ in 2022.

Diesel addressed the delay on Instagram. Posting a backstage photo with Dwayne Johnson, he wrote, “I got Universal in one ear saying we need ‘Fast X2’ by March 2026! I have Comcast in the other ear saying we need two movies to be the Finale! Then, the writer on ‘Fast Five’ sent me this image and said we need to see Dom and Hobbs resolve their differences. I just want to get back to real street racing, practical stunts…, and a reunion of that beautiful brotherhood. Happy Thanksgiving…”

‘Fast X’ premiered in May 2023. Filming for its follow-up was set to start later that year, but Hollywood labor strikes halted the plans, changing the release date first to April 4, 2025, and now to 2026.

Diesel is still returning as Dominic Toretto in the upcoming installment, alongside Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs. The rest of the cast is unknown, though Robert Downey Jr., Michelle Rodriguez, Matt Damon, and Alan Ritchson are among the names rumored to join the project.

Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel serve as screenwriters, with Louis Leterrier taking the helm. Leterrier also directed ‘Fast X,’ working from a script written by Dan Mazeau and Justin Lin.

The 2023 movie followed Dominic Toretto trying to protect his family and crew from Cipher and Dante Reyes, who was seeking revenge for the death of his father, Hernan Reyes.
