Hollywood actor Viola Davis, who received an NAACP Image Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance in the film ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom‘ became sociable the other day to mourn the loss of actor Olympia Dukakis, best known for her portrayal of ‘Rose Castorini‘ in the Oscar-winning ‘Moonstruck.’
As known, it was officially announced that Dukakis passed away on May 1, at the age of 89. According to the first announcement, the actor, who has been under hospice care at home for a while, passed following a period of ill health.
As news of her passing spread sparked a national outpouring of grief; so much so that, a great number of Hollywood stars flooded their social media accounts in order to pay homage to the late star. As one of them, Viola Davis took to her verified Instagram account, released a photo of Dukakis, and penned the following message as a tribute:
“RIP Olympia Dukakis…the consummate actor. You made all around you step up their game. A joy to work with. Rest well.”
Davis said goodbye to the Greek-based star with the lyrics of ‘Song for Athene:’ “May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Meanwhile, ‘Girls‘ alum Zosia Mamet also went to her verified Instagram account to lead a tribute to the star, who also appeared in fan-favorite films including ‘Cloudburst’ and ‘Away From Her,’ by writing:
“You were and will always be a legend. To have known and worked with you even briefly was one of the great honors of my life. Thank you for gracing this world with your magic. Rest In Peace Olympia”
