The most-watched post-apocalyptic horror television series, ‘The Walking Dead‘ has been set to hit AMC and various streaming platforms with its eleventh season!
As fans already know, the series, starring Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Christian Serratos, Josh McDermitt, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan had been renewed by AMC back on September 9, 2020. At that time, it was announced that ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 11 would premiere in October 2020; however, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the release date was delayed multiple times.
Fortunately, shortly before the showrunners announced the new release date; according to the updates, the series, based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, will be released on August 22, 2021!
In the upcoming season, ‘The Walking Dead,’ produced by David Alpert, Scott M. Gimple, Angela Kang, Greg Nicotero, Joseph Incaprera, Denise Huth, and Gale Anne Hurd will air through three eight-episode airing blocks. As fans may know, season 11 will contain 24 episodes.
Showrunners for the series also announced that there will be a spin-off series that will follow the characters of ‘Daryl‘ and ‘Carol.’ Even though the release date did not reveal, it is expected that the spin-off will arrive in 2023.
Is ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 11 the final season?
As fans might remember, at the times the series just premiered, executive producer David Alpert said in a press statement that there will be season 12. In his own words:
“I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where seasons 11 and 12 will be… we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we’re lucky enough to get there.”
However, the news provided by the showrunners is not saying the same thing; according to the latest updates, the AMC series’ eleventh season will be the final.
