The groundbreaking crime-drama series, ‘Mare of Easttown‘ made a huge wave with its first season; as known, the Brad Ingelsby-created limited series, in which ‘Titanic’ star Kate Winslet portrayed detective ‘Mare Sheehan,’ premiered on HBO on April 18, 2021.
With its first season, the series, starring Jean Smart, Guy Pearce, Julianne Nicholson, Angourie Rice, David Denman, Evan Peters, Sosie Bacon, and John Douglas Thompson, garnered high praises for both its story-telling technique and Winslet’s inspiring performance. Of course, after all of these acclamations from both audiences and critics, the question of that “will there be a ‘Mare of Easttown’ second season” came out. Here all we know about the “potential” season 2:
Will there be more ‘Mare of Easttown’?
It is possible to say regarding the second season of the seven-episode limited series which concluded back on May 30, there is no exact information provided by the streaming platform – HBO Max – and showrunners. However, Ingelsby, the creator of the series, stated during an Esquire interview that he is okay with a second season “if the story is right.” In his own words:
“We didn’t ever talk about returning…it’s very much a closed story. I think you’ve seen that now, the story ends. I think all the loose ends get tied up. I hope so at least. But I think if we could ever crack a story that was as emotional and surprising, then I think maybe there’s a conversation. I don’t have that in my head right now, but I mean, listen, I love Mare.”
Ingelsby continued his words by saying that he would consider it if the team of the limited series could give ‘Mare’ a great season. While Ingelsby is giving the green light to ‘Mare of Easttown’ season 2, HBO’s Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said in a Variety interview:
“If Brad felt like he had a story to tell that felt like it would be at the same level, I think everybody would be open to it. Right now, he doesn’t have that story. Who knows? We’ll have to wait to see if they come up with something they’re dying to tell.”
The star of the series directed by Craig Zobel, Winslet stated that she missed ‘Mare’ so much when she was asked about season 2 by TVLine. During the interview she said:
“I would absolutely love to play Mare again. I miss her. I really do. It’s the strangest thing. I feel like I’m in mourning. It was an absolutely wonderful role.”
It seems everyone wants another season, especially the fanbase of the series!
