Adan Canto passed away on January 8 after a private battle with appendiceal cancer. His publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed the news to USA Today with an email the next day. About the late actor, Allen wrote:
“Adan has a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many.”
The Mexican actor played in 2014’s ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ alongside names like Patrick Stewart and Halle Berry. As his long-time friend, the Storm actress shared her sadness over the death news on an Instagram post, captioning it:
“I don’t have the words just yet… But my dear, sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart.”
The Actor’s Other Co-Stars Also Grieved His Loss
After ‘X-Men,’ Canto worked with Berry in the 2020 sports drama ‘Bruised.’ He also took on the role of Aaron Shore in ‘Designated Survivor,’ starring alongside Kiefer Sutherland.
Sutherland mourned his co-star’s death on social media by sharing a photo of them and writing:
“It seems lately I have had to make too many posts like this one, but I am heartbroken by the loss of Adan Canto. He was such a wonderful spirit. As an actor, his desire to do well, to be great, and then do better, was truly impressive, and he will be greatly missed.”
The actor mentioned being ‘heartbroken’ for Canto’s wife, Stephanie Lindquist, and their two children, 3-year-old Roman and 21-month-old Eve.
A ‘Designated Survivor’ Actress Expressed Anger
Following Sutherland, the political thriller show’s Emily Rhodes, Italia Ricci also posted an emotional message for the late actor. Under a photo of her, Canto, and Kal Penn on set, she commented:
“I’m completely lost for words. He was the strongest person I know in every sense of the word, and I am so angry that this happened. No one deserved this less than this sweet, brilliant, kind, and gentle man.”
Referring to the illness that took his life, the actress added:
“F*ck cancer. F*ck. I’m so sorry for everyone hurting at this devastating loss and am beyond heartbroken for his family. You’ll be in my heart always.”
‘Designated Survivor’ was one of Canto’s last projects. After ending the series in 2019, the actor last appeared in the TV show ‘The Cleaning Lady’ and the 2022 film ‘Agent Game.’
