X-Men’s Vinnie Jones Refused ‘Deadpool’ Role: ‘They Didn’t Have The Budget To Put Me In That Suit’

The actor made it clear that he won’t be reprising his role from ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ in the new Marvel film.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is creating a buzz by reuniting characters from the X-Men films, but fans won’t see Vinnie Jones’ Juggernaut among them. The actor shared his reasons in an interview with Yahoo UK, mentioning that the offer he received didn’t justify the hassle of getting into that costume again:

“Funny enough, I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one that’s coming out now. I spoke to the director, and I just said, ‘It’s such a drama putting that suit on, mentally and physically.’ It had its mental toll as well, because you’re in it, and you can’t do anything all day. You can only drink from a straw.”

Jones expressed his fondness for the Deadpool series despite not reaching a deal to be part of the latest film:

“So, we couldn’t strike a deal for Deadpool, but, I mean, Deadpool is my favorite movie of f***ing all time, more or less. I really wanted to do it, but they didn’t have the budget to put me in the suit.”

The Actor’s Debut as the Character Wasn’t Good

Looking back at his time with the X-Men series, Vinnie Jones recounted the not-so-pleasant experience of working on the 2006 sequel. He initially looked forward to the project, especially with Matthew Vaughn as the director. However, after Vaughn was replaced by Brett Ratner, significant changes were made, including the reduction of Juggernaut’s role, which disappointed Jones. The actor shared:

“The director brought in so many other moving parts… and mine was the [only] one that got diluted, the Juggernaut. It didn’t… you know, I lost all interest quite early, because I knew they were just ticking me along, you know what I mean? I was upset. I was very upset, because it was such a [big] movie, such a big stage, and [I] became an extra. That’s what happened.”

Jones hasn’t played Juggernaut since ‘X-Men: The Last Stand.’ The character did appear in the Deadpool films, but through motion capture rather than live-action performance.

Marvel brought characters like Wolverine, Colossus, and Shatterstar back together for the upcoming ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The movie will hit the screen on July 26, 2024.
