20-year old actress Yara Shadidi, known for her role as ‘Zoey Johnson’ on the sitcom ‘Black-ish’ is set to play ‘Tinker Bell’ in Disney’s live-action ‘Peter Pan and Wendy.’
The star, who will be the first person of color to play this role that previously has featured a white actress, released the big news through her verified Instagram account. Shadidi posted a cartoon image of ‘Tinker Bell’ and added the following caption that reads:
“Thank you for all of the love. It, truly, means so much to me 💕🧚🏽♂️ I’m excited for this next adventure!”
Following the post, young artists such as Lily Collins, Elle Fanning, Asia Monet, and SZA left their supportive messages into the comment section.
As one’s remember, Halle Bailey has been announced to play ‘Ariel’ in the upcoming movie ‘The Little Mermaid’ a shortly before, and Disney revealed that it has been open to any actor. With the Shahidi decision, the company proved that.
Shahidi will join the cast including Jude Law (as Captain Hook,) Alexander Molony, and Ever Anderson (as Peter Pan). The movie, which is set to follow the original plot of ‘Peter Pan’ movie dated 1953, will be directed by the filmmaker of ‘The Old Man & the Gun,’ David Lowery. Lowey also co-writes the script with Toby Halbrooks.
Even though the release date of the movie has not been announced yet, it is estimated to be released in 2021.
