Shawn Levy recently assured viewers that they don’t need to watch previous films to enjoy ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ He spoke of the 34th MCU movie in an interview with the Associated Press:
“I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research.”
The Film Won’t Overlap With Canon
Levy reunited with ‘Free Guy’s Ryan Reynolds and ‘Real Steel’s Hugh Jackman for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ He also brought the two actors’ characters together on screen for the first time since 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’
But the new project will not affect the canon or Wolverine’s character arc in the Fox franchise. Jackman will play an alternative version of the hero who died in 2017’s ‘Logan.’
Wolverine And Deadpool Will Be An ‘Interesting Duo’
The new trailer showed Deadpool trying to recruit a Wolverine who nearly destroyed his world. Levy commented on the dynamic between the two heroes:
“It’s a really interesting duo. They’re built for huge conflict with each other because they’re so different individually. But that makes for a very interesting story, because the best two hander stories, whether it’s ‘Midnight Run’ or ‘48 Hours’ or ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’, yes, it’s littered with conflict. But it’s ultimately about something more as well and that’s what audiences will see.”
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is up for release on July 26.
