Zoe Saldaña Gives Green Light To ’Star Trek’ For ‘One Last Round’

She looks forward to working with the original cast again for what might be the last time.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Zoe Saldaña expressed eagerness to reprise her role as Nyota Uhura in the upcoming ‘Star Trek 4,’ confirming her readiness for what appears to be the final chapter in the Star Trek reboot series.

While discussing her role in ‘Special Ops: Lioness,’ Saldaña shared her thoughts on returning to the Star Trek universe. Looking back on her positive experience working with J.J. Abrams, she admitted she was concerned that younger actors would replace the older cast:

“I heard what you heard in the trades. I just heard that they’re gearing up to do a new one with a younger take on it. Like it’s been off. I don’t know if it’s if it’s from the before or the after, but that they really still hope to grab all of us veterans and and bring us back for one last round. Listen, I know it’s a lot to wrangle a whole bunch of people with busy schedules. But working with J.J. Abrams and for J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot was always a wonderful and beautiful experience for me. So, if I get to do that one last time, I would be so grateful.”

This news comes after Paramount’s announcement of the continuation of the sci-fi series.

Will Star Trek 4 Ever Happen?

‘Star Trek 4’ production saw a series of directorial changes. Matt Shakman, initially slated to direct, departed due to conflicting commitments with Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four.’ As of now, Paramount is yet to announce a replacement. Shakman, in an interview with The Wrap, shared his enthusiasm for the project and the cast, regretting his inability to continue.

The upcoming ‘Star Trek 4’ will be the 14th installment in the Star Trek film franchise and the fourth in its reboot series. As of January 2024, the film is still in development. The studio has plans to expand its Star Trek film franchise, inspired by the success of multiple Star Trek series on Paramount+, including an origin story film set decades before the 2009 film.

What’s in Store For Saldaña?

Saldaña’s recent work includes her leading role in ‘Special Ops: Lioness,‘ a series inspired by a U.S. Military program, now available on Blu-ray™ and DVD. The series features a star-studded cast, including Michael Kelly, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman.

Saldaña gained further acclaim as Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2014) to its third volume in 2023. Despite her departure from the MCU, Saldaña remains open to exploring new horizons, including a potential role in the DC Universe under James Gunn’s direction.

As Zoe Saldaña gears up for her ‘one last round’ in the Star Trek universe, she also has some other upcoming projects, including the ‘Avatar’ sequels,The Bluff,‘ and ‘Emilia Perez.
