Zoë Saldaña Thinks James Cameron’s Real Legacy Is ‘Avatar,’ Not ‘Titanic’

She believes ‘Avatar’ will be remembered as Cameron’s main achievement, more than ‘Titanic.

In a recent interview with Collider, actress Zoë Saldaña shared her perspective on director James Cameron’s most impactful work. While Cameron’s ‘Titanic’ has long been celebrated as a cinematic milestone, Saldaña argues that his true legacy lies with the ‘Avatar’ film series.

James Cameron’s ‘Titanic,’ with its then-record $200 million budget, was the highest-grossing film until it was dethroned by ‘Avatar.’ According to Saldaña, it is the ‘Avatar’ series that truly represents Cameron’s lasting impact. Speaking about the upcoming ‘Avatar 3,’ the actress said the following:

“It’s going to be amazing. Avatar 3 is going to be amazing, and Avatar 4 and 5 just get crazy. It’s true. It really does. He’s blown our minds. This is his legacy project. We all thought it was Titanic, and it turned out that Avatar is his legacy, and for us to be a part of something so groundbreaking and trailblazing, it’s like it’s a legacy for us, too. So I’m excited to go back. We go back to work next week, so I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone.”

Avatar’s popularity also led Cameron to announce two additional sequels, for a total of four. While ‘Avatar 4’ and ‘Avatar 5’ are currently in production, with expected release dates in 2029 and 2031, Saldaña confirms that they are set to take the series to even greater heights.

What We Know About ‘Avatar 3’?

Directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by Cameron, ‘Avatar 3‘ features a star-studded cast and is the third in the franchise following ‘Avatar: The Way of Water.’

Production challenges, including the development of new technology for underwater performance capture, resulted in a prolonged filming period from September 2017 to December 2020. Despite the delays, anticipation for the film remains high, with Saldaña teasing that ‘Avatar 3’ will be ‘amazing.’

As of now, the film has a release date set for December 19, 2025.

Saldaña’s Upcoming Projects

Saldaña’s breakthrough came in 2009 with her portrayal of Neytiri in Cameron’s ‘Avatar.‘ The actress reprised this role in the 2022 sequel, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ and contributed vocals to the film’s soundtrack. She is set to return as Neytiri in ‘Avatar 3.’

As of now, Saldaña stars in the Paramount+ spy thriller series ‘Special Ops: Lioness.‘ The series, based on the real-life Lioness Program, explores the lives of a covert CIA team of women operatives in Syria. In ‘Special Ops: Lioness,’ Saldaña portrays Marine Joe McNamara.
