Nip/Tuck Reboot: Are Julian McMahon And Dylan Walsh Coming Back In 2023?

Ryan Murphy, at EW Fest in 2015, opened the door to a potential ‘Nip/Tuck’ reboot. This news sparks curiosity about how the show’s originality will be preserved or transformed in its new reboot. Besides, will we see Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh make a comeback in it?

‘Nip/Tuck’ was originally aired from July 22, 2003, to March 3, 2010. With a narrative that blended medical drama with elements of crime, black comedy, and psychological thriller, the show charted new territory in television storytelling. As of 2023, we are wondering: Will Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh reprise their roles in a possible reboot?

Is a Nip/Tuck Reboot Possible?

In October 2015, at EW Fest, Ryan Murphy hinted at the possibility of a ‘Nip/Tuck’ reboot. While expressing his interest in overseeing rather than directly penning the series, Murphy suggested a fresh perspective for the reboot as well:

“I would get cool writers to do it, and I think I would redo that show now with two women. I loved the weird cases-of-the-week that were 99.9 percent of the time based on real stuff. I love that. I miss that.”

McMahon also shared his thoughts about a reboot in a December 2018 interview, expressing interest in revisiting the role:

“It’d be pretty fascinating to pick up those guys this far into it with what’s happening now. And those characters — that’s one of the most extraordinary characters I’ve ever seen, Christian Troy. And I don’t see why we couldn’t see him at any stage of his life. I find him pretty interesting.”

The original series, set primarily in Miami before moving to Los Angeles in its later seasons, was the brainchild of Murphy. It focused on the lives of Dr. Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon.) Following its release, ‘Nip/Tuck‘ achieved critical acclaim, securing a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award among its 45 nominations.

McMahon and Walsh’s Current Projects

McMahon’s portrayal of Dr. Troy was a highlight of his career, which has since included roles in ‘Marvel’s Runaways,’ ‘Swinging Safari,’ and the CBS crime drama ‘FBI: Most Wanted.’ He’ll also appear in the upcoming film ‘The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat,‘ which is currently in post-production.

As for Walsh, post-‘Nip/Tuck,’ he has been involved in various projects, including ‘Unforgettable,’ ‘Superman & Lois,’ and a recurring role in ‘Blue Bloods.’ He starred in movies like ‘Deadly Switch’ and ‘Alter Ego,’ and he’s also involved in the television series ‘An Incomplete Education,‘ currently in post-production.

Current Status of a Reboot

As of November 2023, the details regarding the return of McMahon and Walsh in a ‘Nip/Tuck’ reboot remain under wraps. With the actors’ recent engagements in other projects, their involvement in the reboot is highly speculative.

Whether the reboot will mirror the original’s storytelling or chart a new course remains to be seen. However, according to what Murphy said earlier, we may see two female leads in a new narrative if the reboot happens.
