Anthony Carrigan On Why He Doesn’t Care Much About Playing Metamorpho In ‘Superman: Legacy’

Known for playing bad guys, Carrigan is now a superhero in ‘Superman: Legacy.’

Anthony Carrigan is now stepping into the superhero realm as Metamorpho in the upcoming film, ‘Superman: Legacy.’ However, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Carrigan shared that playing a superhero feels fresh but isn’t too important to him.

Carrigan, who previously portrayed the Batman villain Victor Zsasz in ‘Gotham,’ shared his approach to acting — focusing on exploring the depths and contrasts of his characters. He explained:

“It’s very refreshing to be playing a superhero, finally, but I don’t think it quite matters to me. My favorite game is to, no matter what I’m given, try to find the opposites. See what’s possible in terms of stretching a character in different directions.”

He then touched upon the qualities he finds in Metamorpho, whom he admitted he relates:

“With all of my characters, I really try to find some sense of authenticity and truth in what I can relate to about the character. With Metamorpho, this is a character who was almost cursed with his powers and thought that he was freakish in terms of what he looked like, and that’s something I could totally relate to because of my alopecia.”

Latest Updates About ‘Superman: Legacy’

While Carrigan remains tight-lipped about the details of ‘Superman: Legacy,’ he expressed his excitement about working with James Gunn and gratitude for being part of the project. Before landing the role of Metamorpho, it’s known that the actor had shown interest in playing Lex Luthor.

Set to begin filming in March 2024 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, ‘Superman: Legacy‘ aims to explore Superman’s heritage without retelling his origin story. The narrative focuses on Superman’s life in Metropolis, working at the Daily Planet.

Joining Carrigan in the cast are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and a host of others, including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern and David Corenswet as Superman. The film, scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, is expected to mark a new beginning for the DC Universe, with Gunn at the helm.

In addition to ‘Superman: Legacy,’ Carrigan is involved in other projects currently in production, including ‘Adulthood‘ and ‘Death of a Unicorne.
