Jake Sisko ended his part with a memorable farewell to his father, Captain Benjamin Sisko, on 1993’s ‘Deep Space Nine.’ Since then, the character hasn’t reappeared in the Star Trek series, though many believe he continued his career as a journalist for the Federation News Service.
Cirroc Lofton recently told Screen Rant for the 5th anniversary of ‘The 7th Rule’ podcast that there was a chance for Jake to come back in the first season of ‘Star Trek: Picard,’ though. The actor shared:
“The time that I [was] watching an episode saying, ‘Hey, I could do that!’ was when we were watching ‘Picard.’ And Picard was being interviewed by a journalist in that episode. And I thought to myself, this would have been a perfect time for Jake to show up and ask him some tough question about, you know, Wolf 359. ‘Just a quick question for you. I have a question.’”
He referred to a scene in the show’s very first episode, ‘Remembrance,’ where an FNS reporter asked Jean-Luc Picard about the Mars Attack of 2385.
The Actor Is Ready To Play The Character Again
There were a few chances for Jake Sisko’s return in Paramount+’s Star Trek projects. Lofton could’ve voiced the character in 2021’s ‘Prodigy’ or 2020’s ‘Lower Decks,’ which already revisited Deep Space Nine characters like Kira Nerys and Quark.
While these animated shows could afford to have the 45-year-old actor play Jake in his 20s, a live-action appearance would be harder to make. Still, Lofton is open to reprising his part in the franchise’s future, as he said last year:
“You know, those things are outside of my control. The ‘Star Trek’ powers that be make all of those decisions… ‘Star Trek’ has new people at the controls, at the helm. And so, it is possible. I’m not closing the door on the realm of possibility because I think that’s one of the things that ‘Deep Space Nine’ talks about, they talk about the dreamer and the dream. And if you close yourself to possibilities, then you close yourself to those dreams. Sure, it would be a dream of mine to reprise the role of Jake Sisko and do it again. So, I will never close the door on those dreams.”
