Emily Blunt Is Still Open For ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ Sequel

As the fans of the 2014 film and the original manga, ‘All You Need Is Kill,’ keep asking for a sequel, Blunt is on board for a comeback as Sergeant Rita Vrataski.

In a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Emily Blunt shared insights into her diverse filmography, touching on everything from her role in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ to her involvement in ‘Oppenheimer.’ During the chat, the topic of ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ and the possibility of a sequel came up.

Mentioning the previous plans for the movie’s sequel, Blunt said:

“It could be good. I think when we first talked about a sequel, it was right before I was about to do ‘Mary Poppins,’ so it was quite a while ago. I think if we were going to do one, we would have to reimagine what the sequel would look like.”

The Script For The New Film Was Ready

After the original ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ made its mark, there was talk in 2016 about making a sequel. Director Doug Liman was on board to direct again, and Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse were tasked with writing the script.

While talking about the film with Horowitz a few months ago, the Rita Vrataski actress even revealed reading a script for the sequel:

“Yes, we did. There was one that Doug slithered over to me. But I would love to make it a reality; I just don’t know when or how. And how many ‘Mission: Impossible’s does he need? Come back to the side where you can … Wasn’t he brilliant as the cowardly hero? Incredible.”

The Project Faced Some Issues

Despite these promising beginnings, progress on ‘Edge Of Tomorrow 2’ hit a snag. By 2019, the project needed a new script, which led to more delays. This left many wondering if the sequel would ever happen.

A new glimmer of hope came in January 2024. Tom Cruise, the main lead in the original film, secured a partnership deal with Warner Bros. Pictures. He’s reportedly been discussing a sequel among many other projects like ‘The Last Samurai’ and ‘Magnolia.’
