‘Eureka’ And ‘Smallville’ Actor Chris Gauthier Dies Unexpectedly At 48

Chris Gauthier, loved for his work in ‘Eureka’ and ‘Smallville,’ died unexpectedly on February 23, 2024, at 48.

In a statement released to TVLine by TriStar Appearances/Event Horizon Talent, the agency confirmed the news, stating:

“We can confirm that our dear friend and client, Chris Gauthier, passed away on Friday morning, February 23, at the age of 48. As a beloved Vancouver-based character actor, Chris shared his talents with so many of us both on television and in film.

His loss is felt not just by his fans but by those of us who were lucky enough to know him more personally.”

The family has requested privacy during this difficult time to mourn their loss.

Gauthier’s Passing Saddened Many

Gauthier’s manager revealed that the actor’s death came suddenly after a brief illness. Tributes have poured in from co-stars and friends, expressing their grief and sharing memories of Gauthier.

Colin O’Donoghue, who played Captain Hook alongside Gauthier’s Smee in ‘Once Upon a Time,’ took to Instagram to share his sadness, writing:

“Rest in Peace Chris! Heartbroken! My love and thoughts go out to Erin and the boys! You will be missed brother! You were the real captain!!”

Adam Horowitz, co-showrunner of ‘Once Upon a Time,’ expressed his sadness on X:

“So sad to hear of the passing of Chris Gauthier. Such a kind, sweet, and talented person. You will be missed.”

Christopher Gorham, Gauthier’s co-star on ‘Harper’s Island,’ remembered him as a good man gone too soon:

“Another good man gone too soon. Grateful to have worked with Chris and am sending love to his family and friends. Rest in peace, pal.”

Gauthier’s career spanned several TV shows, including his roles as Ronald Reznick in ‘Supernatural,’ Winslow Schott aka Toyman in ‘Smallville,’ and appearances in ‘Harper’s Island,’ ‘Sanctuary,’ ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events,’ ‘Legends of Tomorrow,’ The CW’s ‘Charmed’ reboot, and ‘Joe Pickett.’
