Former Supergirl Melissa Benoist Breaks Silence On Milly Alcock’s Casting

James Gunn confirmed the ‘House Of The Dragon’ actress’s casting in late January.

Melissa Benoist, who fans know from the Arrowverse, recently shared her thoughts on Milly Alcock taking over her role for the DC Universe’s ‘Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow.’

It’s been a couple of years since Benoist left her superhero role, and she’s now looking forward to seeing what Alcock brings to the character in the new DC Universe led by James Gunn. She told Screen Rant:

“I think any and all takes on the character are valuable because of what she stands for. Supergirl as an entity is iconic for a reason and has been since the ’50s. I personally think that every iteration of her is valuable for young women to see, and hopefully [with] every take on her, someone will see themselves in it.”

What We Know About Milly Alcock’s Upcoming DC Appearance

James Gunn’s DC Universe is shaping up, with the new ‘Superman’ movie featuring David Corenswet already in production. Not only will Corenswet’s hero be a key player, but his cousin Kara will be introduced in the first chapter titled ‘Gods And Monsters.’

The direction for Milly Alcock’s portrayal of Supergirl will be heavily influenced by the ‘Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow’ comic book series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

The storyline for Alcock’s character in the DC Universe will follow the path laid out in the comic series, introducing audiences to a more rugged Supergirl.

Alcock is likely to make her debut in ‘Superman,’ given that her final screen test was in Atlanta, where the movie is currently being filmed.
