Marvel Animation executive Brad Winderbaum recently spoke to Variety and talked about Beau DeMayo’s contributions to ‘X-Men ’97’ after his controversial exit.
During the conversation, Variety asked Winderbaum about DeMayo’s abrupt departure. The exec didn’t give any information about the reasons and praised DeMayo’s contributions to ‘X-Men ’97’ instead:
“He did excellent work writing Seasons 1 and 2, and I can’t wait for fans to see the series. The entire team came together to create a revival worthy of the X-Men’s 60-year legacy. From Stan and Jack to Claremont to the Lewalds, we all truly were standing on the shoulders of giants.”
Rumors Suggest DeMayo’s OnlyFans May Be A Factor
DeMayo was fired from his position at Marvel Studios a couple of days ago. Marvel didn’t give a detailed explanation about his departure, but there are speculations suggesting that DeMayo’s OnlyFans account may be a cause for concern.
As per Fandomwire, the industry insider Jeff Sneider wrote the following about DeMayo’s firing:
“[DeMayo] is a nice guy, but impossible to deal with. Like, truly an absolute nightmare to deal with on a daily basis. He’s been really annoying them [Marvel leadership] for a while now, and it has nothing to do with the fact that there’s a lot of diversity and LGBTQ stuff in X-Men. It’s just that he’s really prickly and difficult to work with.”
He then added:
“This insider also suggested that DeMayo’s activity on Only Fans did not go over well with his Disney bosses, who found some of his behavior ‘creepy.’”
DeMayo Disappeared From the Public
DeMayo completed the writing for the first two seasons of X-Men ’97. His vision was to continue the story from where the original 1990s series left off. Eric Lewald, the showrunner of the original ‘X-Men: The Animated Series,’ told Variety the following about DeMayo’s approach:
“We love and respect Beau DeMayo for taking on this job. He’s one of those superfans who knows our show better than we do. He said, ‘We want it to be an extension. We want it to be like the next episode of the show that all of us on staff love and grew up with.’ They could have done a spinoff or a different character or team, and yet they chose to be an extension of our show, which just is ridiculously gratifying to us.”
Variety reports that they had an interview scheduled with the creator. However, they say it was later canceled because DeMayo was feeling ‘under the weather.’
DeMayo didn’t attend ‘X-Men ‘97’s Hollywood Premiere on March 13. This was a day after the news broke.
X-Men ’97’ will have its premiere on Disney+ on March 20, 2024.
