‘X-Men ’97’ Disappoints Latin-American Fans By Making Major Changes For No Reason

Fans in Latin America were excited for ‘X-Men ’97’s return, but they found themselves let down by unexpected changes.

‘X-Men ’97’ was supposed to feel like the old ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ we all love but with better animation and cooler action scenes. Even though it did a lot right, many fans from Latin America feel let down, and here’s why.

According to SlashFilm, these were the two things that made the show special for Latin American fans:

The show had a Spanish voice dub cast in the past that fans liked, but they changed all these voice actors in ‘X-Men ’97.’ Imagine expecting to hear that version of Wolverine and hearing a completely different voice. That’s what happened, and it didn’t sit well with fans.

Some of the X-Men had their names changed to Spanish in the original series. Wolverine was called Guepardo, and Rogue was Titania. But they decided to switch most of these names back to English with ‘X-Men ’97.’ Only a few kept their Spanish names, like Cyclops (Cíclope), Storm (Tormenta), and Gambit (Gambito).

‘X-Men ’97’ Still Received Widespread Approval

‘X-Men ’97’ hit TV screens on March 20 and quickly got a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The original English-language voice cast remains in the show, but some were replaced out of necessity.

It was meant to be a love letter to the original series. However, by changing the Spanish voice cast entirely and messing with the character names, it seems the show forgot about a big group of its fans.
